Yamatoya

Yamatoya Koi Farm was situated in Muikaichi, Shimane prefecture. Sadly, he retired and finished breeding Koi several years, though I've kept in touch with him since. This page will be retained here, in his honour.

This was the main fish house. These first seven photos were taken back in 2002 when I first visited. The pond in the forground contained Sansai, with the other two ponds being for Nisai. In later years, he was using the ponds the other way around, with all of the Nisai being in the larger pond.

This was Yamatoya's Jumbo Koi house, and nearly every one of these Koi was sold as Nisai, and left for growing on.

Here are two of the three ponds that Shiraishi-san used for growing his Tosai through the Winter months. He generally only raised his Tosai to around 26~30cm in Springtime before sending them to the mud pond.

Here is the other pond that he used for raising his Tosai, which again is very small.

It was the late Takeda-san that first recommended Yamatoya to me. Takeda-san was one of my mentors, and hence when he was going to see Yamatoya one day, and invited me along, I accepted his offer.

Here is one of the very first Koi I bought from Yamatoya, Sansai, and about 55cm. She is still in good condition to this day.

Here are three of Yamatoya's fry raising ponds..

This mud pond was for raising Sansai.

This pond contained larger Koi that were being raised for future selling.

The 2009 All Japan Grand Champion... a wonderful Showa bred by Yamatoya Koi Farm. Statistically speaking, only a very few breeders have won this coveted prize, and not long before retiring, Shiraishi-san achieved the ultimate dream!
